Cookie policy

What is a cookie?

In case you are wondering, and contrary to what some people think, a cookie is NOT a program. They do nothing at all. A cookie is simply a "text file" that you can read using your computer's Notebook program. They usually contain two pieces of information: the name of the site and a unique user ID.

When you first visit a site that uses cookies, a cookie is downloaded to your computer. The next time you visit that site, your PC will check if it has a relevant cookie (i.e., one containing the site name, for example) and send the information from that cookie to the site. The site then "knows" that you have been there before and, in some cases, adapts what appears on screen to take that into account. For example, it can be useful to vary the content depending on whether it's your first time visiting a site or your 71st.

Among their main functions, cookies are used to track users. Each time a user enters their username and password, a cookie is generated so that they don't have to repeat this step every time they try to enter the page. A cookie does not identify a person, but rather a computer-browser-user combination.

In addition, cookies are used to obtain information about the user's browsing habits. Cookies do not usually store sensitive information about you, such as credit cards or bank details, photographs, your ID, or personal information, etc. The data they store is of a technical nature, personal preferences, content personalization, etc.

"In any case, cookies can be deleted, accepted, or blocked as desired; to do this, simply go to your web browser's settings menu."

What types of cookies are there?

  • Technical cookies: These are the most basic and allow distinguishing a human user from a robot, identifying when an anonymous or registered user is browsing, executing basic tasks for the operation of any dynamic website, among other things.
  • Analytics cookies: These store information about the type of browsing performed, the most used sections, products consulted, time slots, language, etc.
  • Advertising cookies: These display advertising based on your browsing, country of origin, language, etc.

Some of the cookies used on this website are:

  • Session cookies, to ensure that users writing comments on blogs are human and not automated applications (robots).
  • Google Analytics: Stores cookies to generate statistics on website traffic and visit volume. By using this website, you consent to the processing of information about you by Google. Therefore, the exercise of any right in this regard must be done by communicating directly with Google.
  • Social networks: Each social network uses its own cookies for clicking on buttons such as "Like" or "Share."
  • User-centric security cookies: for detecting authentication abuses for a limited persistent duration, such as repeated failed login attempts. These cookies are set for the specific task of increasing the security of the service.
  • Multimedia content player session cookies (flash cookies): used during the session to store technical data needed to play video or audio content (e.g., image quality, network link speed, and buffering parameters).
  • Load balancing session cookies: used for the duration of the session to identify the same server in the pool so that the load balancer properly redirects user requests.
  • Persistent user interface personalization cookies: used to store a user's preferences regarding a service across web pages.
